Drawing with bic pen - considerations about the process and the medium

DRAWING WITH BIC PEN

considerations about the process and the medium - 31.3.24

... Today*, I've returned to drawings and studies with a bic pen. Something about this simple drawing medium continues to invite me to use it for a reason that is still hidden from me... it's as if its spontaneity is something that nothing could surpass, even without the luxuries of the great colours of the other media... I don't produce these pen drawings for market purposes either, i.e. to sell, I know that their simplicity is very likely to turn away the covetous eyes for works of noble material... But I do them as an inner intention, an intuition that leads me to take the pen and capture the shapes through its strokes, in the simplest way possible, constituting an exercise in perceiving shapes and their expression through the minimum possible means: not even the diversity of the tone of the pencils - which are simple drawing means - but only lines, hatches, blank gaps to express the lights, to create light and shadow with little things, like the little thing of a raindrop on the surface of a plant after a rain. ... but this droplet reflects a splendour when the sun looks at it and inoculates it... all roses are born under the ideal of the rose, and a rose seed already has its ideal underneath it... I think that's why I'm driven to draw even with bic pens, half simple, half miserable... because I see the sun of form under any medium, because I see under any medium the ideal that I carry through my work.
