Ophelia is a character in the novel Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, being a young woman from the high nobility of Denmark. Her tragic end, along with her beauty, turned her into an inspiring muse for themes by great painters in history, such as John William Waterhouse. This inspiration also encompasses my being, and I pay homage here to this muse of literature. The painting is watercolor on paper, but I don't use watercolor as just a means of producing beautiful watercolors, I use it as I use oil, in the same way, both being equivalent paintings for me. I elevate the environment to its fullness, that is, to the beautiful. Ophelia, here, lies lying on a mass of land and vegetation, her hair falls loose over her, in the background the transparent tones of the lake envelop her, and Ophelia looks at us, drained by passion, whose plastic emblems give us the roses next to his body, with his countenance expressing his afflicted heart.
